The lake george region is a blizzard of winter activities
There are many activities available in the region. See our Public Activities page for a list of your options in the region.
Cross Country Skiing
Consider enjoying an all-day cross country experience, quietly sliding through the forests of a nearby cross-country ski park.
Explore the beautiful snowy Adirondack forests on snowshoes. 1/2 day and all-day experiences are available, where you’ll be outfitted with snowshoes and poles.
Axe Throwing Experience
Come to the Adirondacks and leave as an axe throwing expert! It’s fun, it’s memorable, and easy. It’s the real deal, and only 15 min from Lake George!
Winter Mountain Biking
Escape into the snowy countryside on specially equipped “fat tire” mountain bikes. These snow tire equipped bikes are great for riding the groomed snowy trails.
dog Sled Rides
What’s the best winter activity in the Adirondacks? Many would say dog sledding on Mirror Lake or throughout the Adirondack wilderness.
Your trip to the Lake George Region can provide you an amazing, exhilarating experience to remember: An hour-long snowmobile tour through the snowy fields of the Adirondacks.
Outdoor Ice Skating Rink
Lake George’s new public ice skating rink is fun during the day and magical at night. A charming new rink will be waiting for you next to the Shepard Park beach. Bring your skates, and don’t forget your camera, because this will be a moment to remember.
“The Great 8” An Eight Minute Fireworks Display!
Every Saturday evening, the Lake George Winterfest will feature a brief fireworks display overhead. This short 8 min show will take place more overhead than traditional Lake George displays, so the best view is just about wherever you happen to be in Lake George Village. They’ll explode over the Fort William Henry Museum, so stand on just about any sidewalk and look up! (It’s “only” 8 min long to keep crowds from congregating and to remain Covid-safe.)
Please: Wear a mask & Socially Distance During the Shows
Winterfest Ice Sculptures!
The Hyde Collection is famous for its rare works of art. Their indoor collection is closed this winter, but for two special weekends they will have ice sculptures created for your enjoyment. Click below to see a map of the locations.
Ice Fishing Contests
Join the Lake George Area Ice Fishing Challenge!
For the month of February, we invite anglers to share their ice-fishing catch on Visit Lake George’s Instagram page.
The first 100 anglers to do so will receive a free Ice Fishing Challenge t-shirt. The rules of the challenge are pretty simple. See the details on the Public Activities page by clicking the button.
Winterfest takes place Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in February 2021
